The Avs and Kings played a hard-fought game tonight and the Avs walked away with 1 point in a 3-2 shootout loss. Despite the loss the Avs should feel good about this game, not only did they earn a point but they erased a 2-0 deficit as well. The Kings have been one of the best teams in the NHL this season, so far against the Kings this season the Avs are 1-0-1 earning 3 out of 4 points. Jeff Carter opened the scoring for the Kings, banging a rebound past Varlamov late in the 1st. Justin Williams would make it 2-0 in the 2nd, as he batted a puck out of mid air past Varlamov, a beautiful goal. The Avs would cut the lead in half on the PP, a great spin-move by Duchene setup an Erik Johnson shot who made no mistake blasting it past Martin Jones. The Avs would then tie it at 2 again on the PP, a nice give-and-go with O'Reilly and Duchene and O'Reilly would get the goal. The Kings would win the shootout 1-0, as a goal from Anze Kopitar ended up being the winner. Overall a good game all around, both teams fought hard and played some great physical hockey. It was a good learning game for the Avs, they won't win every game but it is encouraging to see an effort like that in a loss. Give credit to Semyon Varlamov, he kept the Avs in the game with some great saves including a beautiful glove save on Colin Fraser. Also Martin Jones deserves some credit as well, becoming only the 2nd goalie in NHL history to start his career 8-0-0. Not the end result the Avs wanted, but a big 1 point earned.

Three Stars:
3. Semyon Varlamov - Varly had a great performance in the loss, making 37 saves on 39 shots.
2. Matt Duchene - Duchene was the best player on the ice tonight, setting up both of the Avs goals.
1. Martin Jones - Jones made 23 saves on 25 shots to improved to 8-0-0 on the season.

Play of the Game - Semyon Varlamov gets it tonight with his huge glove save on Colin Fraser.

Game #36 - The Avs continue their 3-game road trip with game #2, a meeting with the San Jose Sharks on Monday night (@1030PM ET)
