The Avs came out flying in this game, scoring 2 goals in the first 5 minutes and looked on their way to a route victory. Jamie McGinn opened the scoring on the PP, and then Jan Hejda made it 2-0 2 minutes later. From then the Avs looked to be on their way to an easy victory, but that wasn't the case. Clarke MacArthur got the Sens on the board with 5 minutes left in the 1st, and from that point on the Senators really took all the momentum. The Senators would get 2 goals in 1:25 in the 2nd, as Jason Spezza scored on a 5-on-3 and then Kyle Turris scored just as the 2nd penalty ended. The Senators were all over the Avs in the 2nd, as Semyon Varlamov made some big saves to keep it a 1-goal game. Things seemed the same in the 3rd, the Senators kept pressing but Varlamov was up to the task. With around 8 minutes left the Avs finally decided to push back, and they really dominated from that point on. They had several chances to tie the game, Mitchell hit the post and Duchene just missed the net on a chance in front. With just over 2 minutes left Tyson Barrie made a great pass to spring Landeskog, who made a power move to the net. Landeskog was stopped by Anderson but Stastny was right there to collect the rebound and beat Anderson for the tie. The Avs continued to press and had all the momentum heading into OT, and just seconds in some great work by Landeskog and Stastny paid off. With Erik Karlsson without a stick the Avs had some room in the offensive zone, and Stastny waited behind the net until he found a streaking Barrie who made no mistake blasting a wrist-shot past Anderson. Barrie has taken a lot of criticism this season, but he was huge tonight setting up the tying goal and scoring the winner. Gabriel Landeskog and Paul Stastny continue to form a great duo for the Avs, and they were huge tonight. Landeskog is currently on a season-high 8 game point streak, as he had 3 assists tonight. Overall not the best game of the season but a very important 2 points for the Avs. The Avs are now 4-1-1 on this home-stand, which they wrap up on Friday night.
Paul Stastny and Gabriel Landeskog celebrate Stastny's game-tying goal
