Its quite remarkable how the Avs have played so good against some of the best teams in the NHL, and yet get embarrased by the last-place Oilers. For some reason the last few years the Oilers have dominated the Avs, and tonight the Avs had their worst loss of the season losing 8-2. The Avs had a few bad breaks in the 1st, as Taylor Hall scored the first goal on a breakaway after the Avs just missed a scoring chance. Then the Avs lose Jan Hejda in an ugly collision with an Oilers player, who didn't return to the game. The Oilers would then score 2 powerplay goals (Hall and Hemsky) 15 seconds apart and would take a 3-0 lead to the intermission. The Avs came out playing better in the 2nd, and got goals from Holden and Parenteau to cut the lead to 3-2. That would be as close as the Avs would get, as David Perron made it 4-2 minutes later. The Oilers would then get 4 unanswered goals in the 3rd from Arcobello, Eberle, Gagner and Taylor Hall's hat trick. An ugly, ugly loss by the Avs, who seemed to be effected by the long break and didn't skate tonight. This looked like the Avs of the last few years, no compete from the team as a whole, tonight only Matt Duchene and Nathan MacKinnon seemed to be playing well. From a defensive standpoint, a horrible team effort tonight particularly from Nate Guenin and Tyson Barrie. With Hejda's injury looking serious, the Avs need to look for some help on D via trade. Hejda has been the most consistent Avs d-man this season, and the most important on the PK as well. The Avs are still 19-7, as much as this loss stings they have to comeback and play better tomorrow.

Three Stars
3. Devan Dubnyk - Dubnyk was a big reason the Oilers won this game, making 33 saves on 35 shots for the win.
2. Ryan Smyth - The former Av had 3 assists in the game.
1. Taylor Hall - Hall picked up a hat trick and added an assist in the win.

Play of the Game - Gotta give credit to Taylor Hall, his 2nd goal of the game was an absolute rocket past Varlamov.

Game #27 - The Avs need to regroup quickly, as they continue their Canadian road trip with a game against the Calgary Flames tomorrow night (@9PM ET)
