The Avs were due for a game like this, 48 shots on goal (a season-high) and 6 goals in a 6-2 rout of the Dallas Stars. The Avs have been playing very close, tight games lately and were due for a high-scoring outbreak like this. The Avs now stand at 22-9-1 on the season, with 45 points. Coming off a tough loss against Minnesota a few nights ago the Avs came out flying in this contest, and they were rewarded when Nathan MacKinnon scored a beauty for his 7th goal of the season. The Stars would tie it at 1 as Kevin Connauton put home his 1st NHL goal with 33 seconds left in the period. The Avs came out in the 2nd and had one of their best periods of the season, scoring 4 goals in the frame. Paul Stastny made it 2-1 after a great pass from Max Talbot. Andre Benoit made it 3-1 beating Lehtonen with a point shot. Stastny scored his 2nd goal of the game and 10th of the season after tipping home a Landeskog shot. Erik Johnson would make it 5-1 with a slapshot from the point with 3 seconds left in the 2nd. Tyler Seguin would make it 5-2 early in the 3rd after a nice give-and-go with Valeri Nichushkin. Tyson Barrie would put the game away late in the 3rd scoring his 1st goal of the season. Overall a great performance by the Avs, they outshoot the Stars 48-33 and had a great 2nd period. Paul Stastny has had 2 dominating games against the Dallas Stars this season, with 2 goals in both contests. The Avs got a huge contribution from their D tonight, with Benoit, Johnson and Barrie all scoring goals. Something the Avs have lacked in previous years is offensive production from the defense, and tonight showed how improved the Avs are on D. After a hot start the Avs had faced some adversity recently, it was great to see a game like this where the Avs had everything going for them. Overall a huge 2 points against another division rival.

1. Paul Stastny - Stazz had a monster game tonight, scoring 2 goals and adding 2 assists.
